The EuLaViBar will probably be a graded "handbook" resource, somewhat similar to the
International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List, which is the world's most comprehensive inventory of the global conservation status of animal and plant species. It will be a universally applicable tool that provides indications of the current status and extent of the danger to languages. The EuLaViBar will not be restricted to the languages studied in the frames of ELDIA. It will be transferable, and therefore adaptable to the research of other languages as well. Consequently, the EU will also be able to use the tool to monitor the implementation of the EU policy for the protection of minorities.
