For each target community, first a structured context analysis summarizing the state of knowledge was conducted. This formed the basis for

  • the fieldwork manual and questionnaire which was used for all case studies;
  • the legal and institutional framework analyses for each country;
  • the media analyses targeting minority and majority media in each country.

Fieldwork with each target community consisted of a questionnaire study (targeting both the minority group at issue and a control group) and a series of individual and focus-group interviews. The results of the fieldwork were analysed for each case-specific report, and on the basis of questionnaire data, the language-specific EuLaViBar (European Language Vitality Barometer) results were produced.

The results of the case studies, the legal and institutional framework analyses and the media analyses were summarized in comparative reports.
